The monster hunters turn out to be a bunch of gung ho mercenaries with lots of big guns (all lovingly described) who go into action in helicopters without worrying about little details like intelligence gathering, mission planning or stealth.Īt this point I finally became overwhelmed by the testosterone and stopped reading. Of course he has the obligate falling out with the boyfriend of his crush. Of course once he joins the Monster Hunters, he is top of the class and a better shooter than his instructors. He proves his manly class by hitting on the boss's daughter during his job interview thus demonstrating his advanced social skills.
Pitt, far from being a humble office drone is revealed to be an ex cage fighter, a crack marksman and gun obsessed. I soon felt like a sucker as it becomes obvious that the accountancy thing is just a wispy curtain to disguise the onset of a huge Mary Sue wish fulfilment of a plot. He loses his job but is approached by a freelance monster killing agency who are recruiting.
Pitt, an accountant, manages to throw his hitherto merely annoying but suddenly ferocious werewolf boss out of a fourteenth floor window during a fight for his life. I downloaded this because it was free and the intro sounded interesting. With the clock ticking towards Armageddon, Owen finds himself trapped between legions of undead minions, belligerent federal agents, a cryptic ghost who has taken up residence inside his head, and the cursed family of the woman he loves. Should the Cursed One succeed, it means the end of the world, and MHI is the only thing standing in his way. An ancient entity known as the Cursed One has returned to settle a centuries-old vendetta. It's actually a pretty sweet gig, except for one little problem.
Monster Hunter International is the premier eradication company in the business. On the other side are the people who kill monsters for a living. Officially secret, some of them are evil, and some are just hungry. All the things from myth, legend, and B-movies are out there, waiting in the shadows. Old suspense is eradicated this time which means there is more drama that the writer wants to present in the later parts.Five days after Owen Zastava Pitt pushed his insufferable boss out of a 14th story window, he woke up in the hospital with a scarred face, an unbelievable memory, and a job offer. The accent however still matches well and provides the much needed unity among the narrators. Oliver Wyman too gets the aid of Bailey Carr and Khristine Hyam that makes the narration more colorful as each one of them has used his or her voice freely without trying to build any harmony. The flavor of the monsters proves to be the basic strength of each part and no doubt has been the true stroke of writer’s pen. The tales mingles between one another as we move from one mission to the other and though each time we witness the slaying of a monster still the boredom feeling never appears. There are certain tags from the old parts like Monster Hunter International and Monster Hunter Alpha which reminds us about those books as well and we are inclined to give them a second glance. Larry Correia this time takes the help of Jonathan Maberry, Faith Hunter and Jim Butcher in order to knit the tale in an entire new way.
The conspiracies between the Nazis and agent Frank is exposed for the first time as we witness the Old Ones and the gnomes once again roaming our streets. But this time the novel takes us to the history of this supreme squad, a history that was better hidden. One thing the monster hunting squad has always done is to get rid of the monsters whether they were big or small.
Monster Hunter International opens its first archive as it tries to expand the horizon of its work by hiring new recruits who could learn from the experienced ones.
